Abuja (HT): Approximately 7,825 people were kidnapped in Nigeria between July 2025 and June 2026, according to a report by the research organisation SBM Intelligence.
The report documented 1,411 kidnapping incidents and said at least 963 people were killed, including 68 members of the security services.
Victims reportedly paid approximately 7.78 billion Nigerian naira in ransom. The report said a Boko Haram faction received about 90 percent of the total ransom through eight major incidents.
Northern Nigeria accounted for 85 percent of the kidnapping cases and 96 percent of the civilian deaths recorded during the period.
