Oslo (HT): Norway’s King Harald V has died at the age of 89 following treatment for a rare blood condition, the Norwegian Royal Palace has announced.
The palace said the king died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital on Friday morning.
His son, Crown Prince Haakon, automatically succeeded him and will reign as King Haakon VIII.
Harald became king in January 1991 and served for more than 35 years. He was Europe’s oldest reigning monarch and Norway’s first king born in the country since the 14th century. Source: Al Jazeera
