Kathmandu (HT): The death toll from catastrophic floods in Nepal and neighbouring Tibet has risen above 470, while more than 1,500 people remain missing.
Nepal has confirmed 469 deaths and 977 missing people. Chinese authorities reported at least three deaths and 558 people missing in Tibet.
The disaster began when a glacier collapsed, sending ice, water, rocks and mud through Himalayan valleys. Entire villages were buried, while roads, bridges and hydropower facilities were destroyed.
Authorities are also monitoring a new barrier lake along the Nepal–China border that could burst and cause additional flooding. Around 1,550 people have been rescued.
