Trump Says United States and Iran Held ‘Productive’ UN Talks

By HornTimes International Desk

NEW YORK (HT): United States President Donald Trump says American officials held a three-hour meeting with Iranian representatives on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Trump described the discussions as productive and said another meeting would take place soon. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner participated, but Washington did not disclose the subjects discussed or whether any commitments were reached.

Iran had not released a detailed public account of the meeting when the initial report was published. Al Jazeera later reported that Tehran said it had communicated its conditions to Washington through Qatar, which has been mediating between the two sides.

The diplomatic contact could reduce immediate tensions, but Trump continued to threaten severe action if negotiations failed. Any escalation around Iran and the Gulf could affect energy prices and shipping routes serving the Horn of Africa.
