IMF Projects Somalia’s Economy to Grow 2.3 Percent in 2026

MOGADISHU (HT): The International Monetary Fund has projected that Somalia’s economy will grow by 2.3 percent in 2026 before recovering to 2.7 percent in 2027.

Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh welcomed the outlook, saying Somalia’s fiscal reforms and efforts to preserve economic stability were producing results. He pledged to continue domestic revenue mobilisation, debt management and stronger oversight of public finances.

The IMF also projects inflation of 6.5 percent and a fiscal deficit equivalent to 0.9 percent of gross domestic product in 2026. It warned that Somalia remains vulnerable to climate shocks, regional conflict, declining foreign assistance and domestic political challenges.

The figures are IMF staff projections rather than guaranteed outcomes. Growth will depend partly on security, rainfall, remittances, donor support and the government’s implementation of promised financial reforms.
