BAHIR DAR (HT): Ethiopia’s Fano militia has claimed that it captured more than 150 federal soldiers during heavy fighting in the Amhara region.
Pro-Fano sources said the militia attacked government positions in the Wadla-Delanta-Dawunt area on 8 September. They also claimed that a military brigade was destroyed and that other government forces withdrew from parts of the battlefield.
The claims have not been independently verified. Ethiopia’s government and the Ethiopian National Defence Force had not issued an immediate statement confirming the reported prisoners or casualties.
Armed conflict has continued in Amhara despite repeated government efforts to restore security. The latest reports have raised concerns about further instability and civilian displacement in northern Ethiopia.
