BRICS Leaders Call for Middle East Restraint and Protection of Global Trade

NEW DELHI (HT): BRICS countries have unanimously adopted a declaration calling for maximum restraint in the Middle East and the protection of international trade, energy supplies and shipping routes.

The declaration warned against attacks on civilian infrastructure and nuclear facilities. It also opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians and called for an end to Israeli violence in Gaza.

Leaders also discussed alternative international payment systems, artificial intelligence, climate change and opposition to unilateral sanctions and tariffs.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa were among the African leaders attending the summit.
