MOGADISHU (HT): Somalia’s Federal Government has expressed readiness to resume negotiations with opposition groups over electoral and constitutional disagreements.
Information Minister Abdifatah Qasim said the government and opposition had already held several rounds of discussions. He said dialogue remained possible but warned against activities that could threaten national security and stability.
The political dispute concerns proposed constitutional changes and the electoral system expected to be used during Somalia’s 2027 elections. Opposition leaders have questioned the fairness and inclusiveness of the planned process.
The government’s statement could create an opportunity for renewed political negotiations aimed at securing wider agreement before the election timetable moves forward.
