Mogadishu (HT): The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working with international partners, has carried out planned operations that led to the killing of two senior Khawarij leaders in southern Somalia.
The operations took place in Jilib district of Middle Juba region and Ugunji area in Lower Shabelle region.
In an operation on the 19th of the month, conducted between Kuunyo Barrow and Jilib, forces killed Abdihamid Ali Abdullahi Macalin, a key leader responsible for coordinating between Khawarij militants and international terrorist networks. He played a major role in smuggling weapons and explosives and was involved in planning attacks.
In a separate operation on the 15th of the month in Ugunji, Suleyman Omar Fidow, also known as Faruq, Mohamed Abdullahi, and Ali Said, was killed. He was the leader of Khawarij suicide bombers and had previously served as the group’s intelligence chief.
Officials said Fidow was being prepared to replace the group’s former explosives and indoctrination leader, known as Engineer Ismail, who was killed in a planned operation in December.
The operations are part of ongoing efforts to weaken Khawarij networks and improve security in the region.
