SNA Commander Calls for Drone Technology at African Military Summit

Rome (HT): The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA) Ground Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, represented Somalia at the African Land Forces Summit 2026 held in Rome, Italy.

The summit, organized by the United States, brought together military leaders from across Africa and international partners to discuss security cooperation and modern military strategies.

During the meeting, General Sahal highlighted the growing importance of drone technology in modern warfare. He explained that drones are playing a key role in improving Somalia’s operations against Khawaarij militants and strengthening battlefield effectiveness.

He also stressed the need for better cooperation between countries, especially in sharing intelligence and information. According to him, strong partnerships and continuous training are important to build a more capable and modern army.

The commander further emphasized that all military operations must protect civilians and follow national laws and international standards.

The summit focused on improving joint efforts among African forces to deal with common security challenges.
